About Tikau
TIKAU – The Company
Founded in 2008, Tikau is a Finnish pioneer, combining design thinking with the principles of sustainability.
Tikaus social vision is based on the idea "helping design" to reduce poverty and to increase equality in society. Tikau works in close collaboration with the charity-based NGO Tikau Share. The word Tikau comes from Hindi and stands for durable/long lasting/sustainable.
Nothing is factory-made but manufactured by individual artisans and small-scale producers in their homes or in small communities. Tikau collaborates directly on long term basis with 135 artisan partners in rural India. Since 2019 Tikau has also designed and produced items in its Atelier in Finland.
Tikau also offers consultancy services combining trade and aid ideas and design-thinking, and curates exhibitions such as the Ethical area at the annual Habitare Design Fair in Finland.
We believe that great design can be much more than just beautiful products – it can change the world for the better.
